When to Go
April to October is the best. Spring in Paris brings out warmth, bags of fresh market produce, and beautiful flowers. Summer gets hot and busy with crowds peaking in August when the French holiday-makers arrive. The shoulder season of September or October is better when the crowds and the Summer heat mellows down.
There are a lot of visitors coming in July and August but as this is a mainly rural area, visitors are dispersed over a large area and we are only really aware of the influx on market days and at big events. The roads for the most part are still quiet, great for cycling and there are miles of off road tracks to explore. If you’re looking for solitude you can certainly still find it here, especially out of high season. For first time visitors remember that most shops will close for a couple of hours at lunchtime!
Spring at the chateau is perhaps at its best. It’s the perfect time, not too cold and not too hot. The roses are flowering and the forest is greening up, the birds are out and you can feel spring is in the air.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, walking has to be near the top of the list for spring activities. Visiting the Paris sights is more pleasurable as the heat is not so taxing. The activities and sights are endless.
